KANE v. COWEN, M.D.

In this medical negligence case, plaintiff alleged that Dr. Cowen failed to appreciate a “silent” bowel infarct and subsequently hole in the bowel during appendectomy. Patient then went on to have multiple complications including sepsis, peritonitis and numerous follow-up surgeries claiming total disability. A defense verdict was obtained after a lengthy trial involving numerous experts regarding bowel disease, therapeutic steroid usage and the prospects for vocational rehabilitation.
